Journal Entry 7 – The Values of Jesus

Watch the following presentation and answer the following questions:

1. Define the term ‘beatitude’.

Beatitudes are the eight sayings of jesus at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount. It means a state of supreme happiness.

2. Explain the purpose of the beatitudes.

The purpose of the beatitudes are that is explains many people and there characteristics. The have to have the ability to experiance heaven. 

3. Select ONE beatitude and describe how inspiring people of faith put into practice the teachings of Jesus. Use an example to support your answer.

Here is the list of the beatitudes:

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

All this means is that God is with you what ever you do. He will comfort you and if you are; poor, sick, hungery etc, he will bless you and help you. 

Journal Entry 6 – Andrew John’s Vs Mother Theresa

1. What do you think the above image is about? Discuss.

The above image is about two very different people. Andrew Johns and Mother Theresa. Andrew Johns is an Australian former football player and Mother Theresa was a Roman Catholic nun. Andrew would never give up in his sport because he loves it. He always thinks that he will never fail. Mother Theresa was a very nice person that lots of people would listen to and would follow her path.

2. List FIVE personal qualities of Andrew Johns.

Inspired alot of people, a very good atheletic, would never quit & would always do his best, a good sporting person, and he was the best halfback for quite a long time.

3. List FIVE personal qualities of Mother Theresa.

She took care of everyone, she loved them all (she had no favourites), she started hospitals for the people who are sick and pale, she cared for everyone, and she still helped people even though she was not feeling good.

4. Discuss what you believe the difference is between inspiring people and inspiring people of faith.

Inspiring people are people who are famous and lots of like them because of what they do. People are inspired by this. Inspiring people of faith are people who follow the religious path like Jesus and Mary.

Journal Entry 5 – Marist Charism

1. Define the word Charism.

Charism means a conferred Gift from God.

2. Marcellin Champagnat outlined FIVE marist charisms that are identified within Marist schools. Describe THREE of these charisms.

The five marist charisms are: Love of work, Humicity simplicity Modesty, Family Spirit, Presence, All to Jesus with Mary, Gods work we are about. Love of Work: Young brothers must be prepared to dirty there arms.

Humicity Simplicity Modesty: Down to Earth.

Presence: Present to the boys. Brothers need to be present.

3. Provide THREE examples of how you have seen these charisms evident within Parramatta Marist.

Practical Wisdom, Strength of Character, Family Spirit.

4. List and describe TWO ways you believe we can create a better sense of ‘Marist Family’ within Parramatta Marist.

1. When new people come to our school, we should welcome them into our school and make them comfortable. Example; teachers, young people, new people in our school.

2. When there is an arguement or a fight, we should try and resolve it so that the two people who are fighting or arugeing can be friends. We should follow the foot steps of Marcellin Champagnat.

2. List as many characteristics as you can that are used to judge nominations for these awards. Remember some may not be easy to find you will have to work hard.

Music – This is judged by how well they can sing and how many people like them.

Actor/Actress: How well they act in a movie and the amount of people that vote for them.

Journal Entry 3 – Inspiring People

1. Select ONE person who you consider to have inspired you and provide a short background of this person.

Ronaldinho inspired me because of his great soccer skills and he is one famous soccer player and i want to be something like that. He was born on march 21st 1980 in Porto Alegre. He played in the team Brazil. his mother, Miguelina was a former saleswomen and she later studied to be a nurse. His father Joao was a shipyard worker and footballer for Cruziero Joao died by suffering a heart attack while in the family pool when Ronaldinho was eight. His first game, at the age of 13, Ronaldinho scored all 23 goals (23-0) to a local team.

2. Discuss briefly why you consider them to be inspiring.

Ronaldinho to me is inspiring because he has great soccer skils which I want and he has trained really hard at a High standard. He is noe famous and he gets payed alot of money. I want to be something like that.

3. Import atleast ONE picture and ONE hyperlink that can add to the information you have provided about your inspiring person or inspiring people in general.

Journal Entry 2 – Managing the group process

1. Why is it important to have regular group meetings?

It is important because the group need to be up-to-date.  The whole group also need to know what they have to do for homework to keep on task.

2. Outline TWO other tools or strategies that can be used to assist group work.

One strategy is to split into smaller groups (eg. pairs) and work together while another pair does something else. Another strategy is once you finished the work, your whole group gets together and you all share the ideas.

3. Discuss THREE problems that you may face from working in your group.

The first problem can be when one person is not listening and he might be talking to someone else and it is very rude to the person who is talking. The second problem could be when there is a big arguement and a fight happens and you would have to waste time sloving that arguement. The third problem is when someone doesnt do their homework and they let the whole group down and your group gets behind all the other groups. Another problem is when you dont do the set work in class, and if that happens, your group isnt on track and you let your group down again.

Inspiring means stimulating or exalting to the spirit.

2. List THREE or more characteristics that you think would be found in inspiring people.

Knowledge, excellent role model, being able to stand out from the crowd and profess what they believe, the ability to say what they believe to the crowd, has a good personality.

3. Import a collage of pictures of people who you consider to be inspiring.
